That's jest cost you a beer...
Charlie Haylock was brought up in a Suffolk
family.
In the evenings with no television and no radio, he would listen
to tales and yarns from his parents and grandparents, depicting
the good times and the hardships of Suffolk life. These tales and yarns would be steeped in Suffolk traditions and sometimes would make comment on the changes taking place throughout their lifetimes, some for the better, some for the wusser!
He heard how his grandfather, Old Bill Haylock in his own lifetime saw the first motorbike and motorcar
drive through the village of Stanstead and Hartest, and yet sat up all night in 1969, and watched a man land on
the moon. He lived 'til he was 90 years old, and had a wealth of knowledge and experience, which spilled over
into his yarns.
He heard how his mother, Joyce, when a little gal in Edwardstone, with her sister Decie, crept into some poor old boy's cottage, and put dried up, finely rubbed horse-droppings into his tea-caddy. He heard how his father and his uncles, Tubal and Arthur, flooded all the low-lands of Snape, when opening up sluice-gates to play Pooh-sticks.
He heard all manner of tales and yarns about childhood, about work in traditional trades, about the two world wars, about poaching, about village schools, about the family, and many, many more. Some were humorous, Some were sad and seldom told, all were true, some exaggerated, nothing written down, all word of mouth. Enjoy the CD togather.
