Sloightly on th' Huh!
"Thassa good toidlee sum"
"Moind how yer goo cumm'n baack."
It may sound like nonsense, but this is the
traditional Suffolk dialect, which has been pivotal in forming the English language as we know it today. Charlie Haylock's affectionate look at Suffolk, and it's language has been a smash hit throughout the county, part-dictionary. part-geography, even part recipe-book, the popularity of the book took Suffolk by storm over the last two years, outselling international authors such as Michael Palin, and Sheila Hancock.
It seems that Charlie's passion for language is infectious, over 25,000 of us have been bitten by the bug. In fact, Sloightly On Th' Huh', has just entered the top three sellers in Waterstone's Book Shop in Ipswich, hot on the heels of 'Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone', and 'The Da Vinci Code'. With the book also selling as far afield as Ely, and Cambridge, it seems that Charlie is headed for international superstardom! But will Charlie let his new found fame change him? Taint ser bit likely...
